The SIOP Foundation offers a variety of awards, scholarships, and grants that support the future of the I-O psychology field and the careers of those professionals at all levels. SIOP Fellow John Scott explains his reasons for personally donating, as well as those of his organizational affiliation, APT Metrics.

How do you decide which nonprofits to support financially?
When I decide to support nonprofits, I gravitate toward those whose missions align closely with my core values. It's crucial for me that these organizations articulate their commitment to making a difference and show measurable results. Transparency in resource allocation, financial stability, and effective management are equally important criteria for me. Ultimately, I want to feel confident that my donation will be utilized exactly as I intend, ensuring my support has a meaningful impact.

Why do you individually give to SIOP Foundation?
The SIOP Foundation's mission and initiatives resonate deeply with me, motivating my consistent support as a donor. By funding research grants and scholarships, the Foundation not only cultivates future leaders and innovative practices within organizational psychology but also drives progress in confronting critical contemporary organizational challenges such as racism, DEI backlash, and the evolving impact of AI in the workplace. The SIOP Foundation’s funding efforts are crucial in leveraging our field’s expertise to effectively tackle these and other pressing issues impacting individuals, teams, organizations, and the communities they serve. I choose to support the SIOP Foundation because I believe in its mission and its power to propel our field's growth, impact, and visibility.

Why does your organization make charitable donations to the SIOP Foundation?
APTMetrics most recently donated to the SIOP Foundation to support two new graduate student scholarships that paid tribute to two exceptional individuals. One scholarship commemorates a remarkable young lady filled with promise at the start of her career, while the other honors the legacy of someone who had just completed a distinguished career. Both individuals exemplified qualities that endeared them to everyone who had the privilege of knowing them.

The Beth Buchanan Graduate Student Scholarship Fund is designed to support and encourage students in pursuing excellence in I-O psychology, particularly those focused on how work and organizations impact critical social issues, including those affecting lower income workers, the work–family interface, employee well-being, remote work, and gender issues. The other new graduate student scholarship fund has been established to honor Michael E. Moomaw. The Michael Moomaw scholarship aims to support students dedicated to exploring I-O psychology's contributions to mentoring, coaching, and/or leadership development.

These scholarships not only commemorate the remarkable individuals they are named after but also embody the SIOP Foundation's commitment to advancing the field of industrial and organizational psychology through meaningful support for future leaders and innovative research.
