Get Perspectives on Leadership During Free APA Webinar

On Friday, March 31 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. ET, the APA will host Perspectives on Leadership: From Starting Your Lab to Directing an Institute, the next webinar in the Lead From Anywhere series. This webinar is free to APA members.

During this 60-minute presentation, Dr. Aaron Boes and Dr. Ted Abel will share strategies for developing successful research programs, emphasizing different career stages.

Dr. Boes will discuss how to successfully launch a research lab as a new principal investigator. He will also cover tasks that are essential for your lab but were not part of your training: what to investigate and how to build your team, navigate conflicts in the lab, and promote your work. Lessons he learned along the way will be included. Dr. Abel will present his approach to leading a large research institute, the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. He will discuss recruiting and retaining faculty, supporting research, and building a collaborative culture.

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss a framework for selecting the focus of their lab or research question.
  • Describe several factors to consider in building a successful team.
  • Discuss three techniques for promoting their discoveries and expertise.

Register now to take a look behind the scenes and learn valuable tips on how to develop your leadership skills. Registrants will also have access to a recording within 2 weeks of the event. Consider registering even if you can’t attend the live event to get access to the recording.
