2022 SIOP Executive Board Election Results

Four distinguished SIOP members will take their positions on the SIOP Executive Board in April 2023, following the recently concluded annual elections. Volunteer service on the board is a hallmark of dedication and service to the profession, as well as an honor bestowed by colleagues. The newly elected officers are:

  • Alexis Fink – President-Elect
  • Liberty J. Munson – Communications Officer
  • Emily G. Solberg – Conferences and Programs Officer
  • Scott Highhouse – Research and Science Officer

SIOP thanks all candidates for their willingness to serve and the members who voted in the election for their engagement.

Current President-Elect and Election Committee Chair Tara Behrend oversaw the SIOP election. “SIOP is so fortunate to have extraordinary and talented members like these, who are willing to serve SIOP and help it achieve its strategic goals,” she said. “I am looking forward to working with our new leaders!”

More information about the new officers, including brief bios and summaries of their candidate goal statements, follows.

Alexis Fink has made service to SIOP and the science for a smarter workplace a key pillar of her adulthood, including prior service on the SIOP Executive Board as the Conferences and Programs Portfolio Officer, chair of a Leading Edge Consortium, Fellow Committee chair-in-training, and much more.

Fink currently leads Meta’s People Analytics and Workforce Strategy function, where she works deeply on selection, performance management, diversity, employee engagement, the future of work, as well as supporting strategic workforce planning and data systems, and reporting for people functions.  She led similar functions previously at Intel and Microsoft, as well as holding practitioner roles in training, organization development and strategy, and operations management.  In parallel, she’s taught at the doctoral level in two I-O PhD programs and has coauthored two books as well as many book chapters and articles.

“I was on the Executive Board in 2019 when the SIOP Strategic Plan was developed and I am excited to continue stewardship of our priorities and our impact,” Alexis said. “My statement described the current moment as a ‘Golden Age’ for I-O psychology and described tremendous relevance and opportunity for I-O to expand our reach and positively impact workplaces and workers.”

Liberty J. Munson, has been re-elected as Communications Portfolio Officer and will continue to drive improvements in Electronic Communications and TIP. She has been a member of SIOP since 2000 and has contributed through service on many committees, often serving as chair, including External Relations, Visibility, Placement (now Career Services), Workshop, and Education and Training. Her innovations in those roles include creating SIOP’s Top 10 Workplace Trends and computerizing the Placement Center (now Conference Career Center) system. In addition, she writes the “Recognizing SIOP’s Award Winners” series for TIP, coordinates the Frank Landy 5k Fun Run, and recently became a SIOP Fellow.

She is the director of Psychometrics for Microsoft’s technical credentialing program. Responsible for ensuring the validity and reliability of this credentialing program, she is considered a thought leader in the certification industry, with special expertise in how technology can fundamentally change assessment design, development, delivery, and sustainment. Liberty earned a BS in Psychology from Iowa State University and her MA and PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with minors in Quantitative Psychology and Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Liberty shared, “I am looking forward to continuing the work that started in my first term as Communications PO, including continuing to improve SIOP’s social media presence, improving SIOP.org usability, and re-imagining the future of TIP to better meet member needs, with the help of the amazing committees in my portfolio. Thank you for re-electing me to this position so that I can see that work come to fruition!”

Emily G. Solberg, has been a SIOP conference enthusiast ever since attending her first conference in Toronto 20 years ago. Over the past decade she has held numerous roles related to SIOP conferences including Program chair, Pre-Conference Workshops chair, Volunteer chair, Local Affairs chair, and Conference Charter task force member, and has served on the LEC Planning committees.  This involvement has given her a thorough understanding of how SIOP conferences operate today, which will enable her to successfully oversee conferences in this portfolio officer role.

Outside of SIOP, Solberg is a managing consultant at SHL where she works with organizations in developing, validating, and implementing their assessment programs. She received her PhD from the University of Illinois (Urbana/Champaign) and has authored numerous book chapters, articles, and presentations/workshops.

In her candidate statement, Solberg outlined three main areas of focus: (a) increasing inclusivity of SIOP conferences by creating more opportunities for participation and collaboration, (b) enhancing the virtual conference offerings through improved technology, and (c) improving the quality of conference content through providing resources and training for conference submitters and reviewers.

“I’m very excited to have been given this opportunity to continue in my efforts to adjust and enhance the SIOP conference offerings in a post pandemic environment!” Emily stated.

Scott Highhouse is a Distinguished Research Professor and Ohio Regents Eminent Scholar in the Department of Psychology, Bowling Green State University. He has been named a fellow of the APA, APS, and SIOP. Scott is founding editor of the open-access journal Personnel Assessment and Decisions, and currently serves as chief science officer for SquarePeg Hires. He has published over 125 scholarly works and serves as the editor for the Routledge book series Essentials of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Most recently, Scott has been reviewing items for The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) professional licensure exam, and he serves as a human factors expert reviewing standards for the Organization of Scientific Areas Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC).

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the membership in this capacity. I hope to make an impact on SIOP’s image as the place for science-based practice,” Scott said about his election.

About the SIOP Voting Process
Each person elected must receive a majority of votes cast for that position. After each voting round, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated. If the voter's first choice receives the lowest number of votes, the vote is transferred to their second choice for the second round and so on until one candidate reaches the required quota.

SIOP values elections that are open and fair, values that reflect and amplify the positive culture of the profession. See the voting results here.
