New Editor Sought for TIP: The Industrial-Organizational Psychologist

SIOP is soliciting nominations for The Industrial-Organizational Psychologist (TIP). TIP provides news, reports, and noncommercial information related to the practice, science, and teaching of I-O psychology. It is to SIOP what the APA Monitor is to APA. TIP publishes four issues per year (Jan., April, July, Oct.).

The new editor will be selected by the Communications Portfolio Officer and approved by the Executive Board in January 2021. The new editor-in-training would begin training for the role by shadowing the current editor for four issues prior to becoming editor in February 2022. 

Nominations, including self-nominations, with appropriate submission materials outlined below, should be sent via e-mail by October 15, 2020 to Liberty Munson (Liberty.Munson@microsoft.com), SIOP Communications Portfolio Officer.

Requirements for TIP Editor

The editor must be a SIOP Member or Fellow. Any SIOP Member or Fellow can nominate for the editorship. Nominees should have: 

1. A broad knowledge of the goals and activities of SIOP members, officers, committees, and the Administrative Office; 
2. Knowledge of trends and interests related to the science, practice, and teaching of I-O psychology, encompassing the opinions and interests of both teachers and students;  
3. Ability to motivate SIOP members to submit articles, columns, and information relevant to members; 
4. Ability to identify and recruit subject-matter experts who can contribute articles, columns, and reports; 
5. Ability to create new ideas for communicating news, information, and trends in I-O; 
6. Knowledge of relationships between SIOP and external organizations (e.g., APA, APS, SHRM, AoM; and 
7. Ability to coordinate with the SIOP president, officers, committee chairs, executive director, and staff in the Administrative Office. 

Prior editorial experience with a strong publication history is preferred. 

The TIP editor serves a 3-year term, but the editor-in-training works with the current editor for 13 months (4 editions) prior to assuming the editor’s role.

Nomination Submission Requirements:

Each submission should include an electronic version of a current CV, a statement describing the nominee’s vision for TIP, and three letters of recommendation from SIOP Members or Fellows.
