Nominations for SIOP Officers Are Due Sept. 30

Nominations for the 2021-22 SIOP President-Elect, along with two Portfolio Officers and the Financial Officer/Secretary, are due by midnight EDT on September 30.

Nominations are an important part of ensuring strong leadership for the future. SIOP values elections that are open, fair, and focused on positive and civil communication. These values reflect and amplify the positive culture of the profession.
Voting members are encouraged to submit nominations for the following Executive Board positions:

• President-Elect
• Financial Officer/Secretary
• Membership Services Officer
• Publications Officer

All nominees must be Members, Retired Members, Fellows, or Retired Fellows in good standing, with their current dues paid. In accordance with the July 2019 Bylaws amendment (Article V. Section 3.d.) and the Election Committee Policy on Nominations, current members of the Executive Board may not stand for office if their election would require them to vacate a currently elected position.

Roles and responsibilities for the open positions on the Executive Board are described in the SIOP Bylaws and the SIOP Officer Roles documents, which can be accessed through the Governance page on the SIOP website. The information is synopsized below.

According to the Bylaws, the President-Elect presides over the Executive Board in the absence of the President, chairs the Election Committee, and carries out other duties delegated by the President. The Officer Roles document also assigns the onboarding of new Executive Board members and the training of committee chairs to the President-Elect. The President-Elect serves a 1-year term, then assumes the office of President for a year, and then serves as Past President for a year.

The Bylaws assign the Financial Officer/Secretary executive oversight of all Society funds and related financial transactions and records. This officer also serves as the Secretary of the corporation and the officially designated Secretary of Division 14 of the APA. This officer works closely with the SIOP Administrative Office’s Finance and Operations Manager, and serves a term of 3 years.

Portfolio Officers’ terms are also 3 years. There are nine Portfolio Officers on the Executive Board, and their terms of office are staggered to preserve a balance of new and experienced officers. Portfolio Officers share responsibility with the Presidential Trio (President-Elect, President, Past President), the Financial Officer/Secretary, and the APA Council Representatives for the governance of the Society.

The Officer Roles document charges Portfolio Officers with ongoing collaboration “to ensure that the Society pursues objectives and initiatives specified in its strategic plan,” while coordinating and overseeing the goals and activities of committees assigned to their portfolio. The following descriptions of the currently open Portfolio positions are from the Officer Roles document.

“The Publications Officer has executive oversight of SIOP publishing activities. This includes chairing the Publications Board, contracting, and staffing editor positions. Responsibilities include Professional Practice Series, Organizational Frontiers Series, Organizational Science, Translation, and Application Series, IOP Journal, and Publications Board, along with potential future book series or journals.”

“The Membership Services Officer has executive oversight for the membership solicitation, approval, and renewal process, including development and maintenance of programs, services and activities to enhance the value of SIOP membership to all membership categories. The officer works closely with the Membership Committee, Awards Committee, Fellowship Committee, Placement and I-O Job Network Committee, and Historian.”

Voting members should have received an email with a link to the nomination site, sent on September 1. If you are a Member, Retired Member, Fellow, or Retired Fellow and have not received the nomination email, you may access the site directly. You will be required to sign in with your SIOP username and password. If you can't remember your username and password, please go to the website login screen and request that they be e-mailed to you. Or call the SIOP Administrative Office at 419-353-0032.
