Celebrating the Return of the Professional Practice Series

Performance Management Transformation is Debut Book

SIOP’s Professional Practice Book Series has returned, with a new publisher and new members of the editorial board, after a four-year publishing hiatus.

Oxford University Press has just released the first book in the series reboot, Performance Management Transformation: Lessons Learned and Next Steps, edited by the new series editor, Elaine Pulakos and newly elected SIOP Fellow, Mariangela Batista.

Performance Management Transformation presents case studies from global marquee companies including Patagonia, AbbVie, Medtronic, Toyota, and GoGo Inflight, among others, along with research and commentary by thought leaders in the field.

Several prominent SIOP members contributed to the book, including Jan Cleveland, Heidi Glickman, Sergey Gorbatov, Tracy Kantrowitz, Gerald E. Ledford Jr., Elizabeth Lentz, Chris Mason Rose Mueller-Hanson, Ryan O'Leary, Jeff Orlando, Andy Pirruccello, Carol Surface and Benjamin Schneider.

Although performance management has been an essential talent management process in organizations for decades, companies have been evolving their processes in new ways to better fit today’s disruptively changing, hyper-competitive work environment. Gone are “one-size-fits-all” best practices. Instead, companies are designing performance management to align with their unique business strategies, needs, and cultures. This has resulted in an overall shift to more flexible processes that focus on managing performance in real time through embedding important manager and employee behaviors that drive performance in the work context.

This volume integrates performance management practice and research and offers concrete guidance for building more effective performance management systems for today’s work environment and into the future.  The book is available through Oxford University Press and Amazon.

The editorial board for the Practice Series comprises a group of knowledgeable and accomplished talent management professionals. Numerous books are in varying stages of production, including volumes edited by Elizabeth Shoenfelt and William H. Macy in collaboration with Alexis A. Fink.
