Whether you’ve been a member for just one day or for decades, SIOP encourages members to get involved. Serving as a volunteer is one of the best and most impactful ways to contribute to the Society’s success―and to gain valuable experience. It's a great way to expand your network and make new connections, and to build your leadership skills and resumé.

Advocate and Promote I-O 

Stay engaged and join the global I-O conversation on social media. Please like and share SIOP social media posts: Follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. This helps to validate SIOP's mission, and the field of I-O psychology.

Connect with other I-Os

• Join a Local I-O group to find a other people in your area with whom you can share your professional opinions, get career advice, and perhaps even mentor up-and-coming I-O psychologists.

Serve on a SIOP committee  

• SIOP encourages all of its members to take an active role in the Society. While there are many ways to participate in SIOP, serving on a Committee is one of the best ways to serve the Society and to learn about the issues that confront SIOP as an organization. Run for Office

• If you’re interested in helping shape the policies of the Society and don’t mind putting in a fair amount of time and energy, consider running for a position on the Society’s  Executive Board. The Board meets several times a year and charts the Society’s course in all realms, from administration to publications to education and policy. Discuss your interest with a member of the current Board. Nominations are sought from the membership each autumn.

Share Your Expertise and Opinions

• Participate in the SIOP Media Resources Directory. SIOP regularly receives requests from the media regarding topics that our members research. Sign up for this directory if you are willing to speak with the media by accessing your membership account and clicking the link for “Manage Privacy and Opt in/Out” on the right hand side of the screen.  (Note only professional members are eligible for this.)
• Contribute to SIOP publications: Both TIP and the IOP Journal: Perspectives on Science and Practice encourages submissions addressing issues related to the practice, science, and/or teaching of industrial and organizational psychology.
• Take SIOP surveys! The information gleaned from the various surveys (Income Survey, Membership Survey, etc.) conducted by our SIOP committees help guide the organization towards continuous  improvement. Tell us what matters to you, the member!

Serve as a Reviewer

• Provide peer reviews for Conference submissions.  Each fall SIOP puts out a call for reviewers to help the Program Committee make decisions about which sessions to offer at the Conference. You may need to review up to five submissions and offer helpful suggestions, critiques and ratings.

Help at the Conference

• During the SIOP Annual Conference, we are looking for Students to assist at the Registration Desk, in the Exhibit Hall, giving directions, as Zoom Facilitators, etc. Please watch for notices regarding this about two months prior to the Conference or check the volunteer box on your Conference registration form.

Share Your Experience

• Occasionally SIOP receives a request for a presentation about I-O psychology to high school or college students, or to staff a table at a career fair.  Generally, the Administrative Office will search our Membership Directory for members who live in the vicinity and reach out.  Please say yes if we call!

Donate 

• Your tax-deductible gift to the SIOP Foundation will ensure ongoing funding for research, awards for excellence, and financial support for outstanding doctoral students.  Please give generously to the Foundation to provide support for the advancement of the science and practice of I-O psychology.

Share Your Honors

• We particularly enjoy highlighting the successes of our members and the various ways that they contribute to the science and their communities. If you (or a colleague) are the recipient of an individual honor for your scientific work, or your work supporting the science of I-O psychology, tell us about it!

Update Your Member Profile

• You can update your personal profile to indicate your interests, a resume, bio, place of employment, keywords, etc. Simply log into your account at the top of this page. Supplying SIOP with these membership demographics helps us plan for priorities and projects.

Consider joining sister organizations

• SIOP is Division 14 of the American Psychological Association (APA) and your membership in APA provides us a stronger influence. We also have affiliations with many additional associations including American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Association for Psychological Science (APS), Alliance for Association Psychology (AOP), Canadian Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (CSIOP), European Association for Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP), International Association for Applied Psychology (IAAP), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology of South Africa (SIOPSA), and more. Help extend the practice and science of I-O psychology by becoming a member of one or more of these associations.
