History With Hakel: The 2023 Living History Session

Former SIOP and SIOP Foundation President Milt Hakel was the featured speaker at the Living History Series session at the 2023 SIOP Annual Conference in Boston earlier this year.

A recording of his session can be found in the SIOP Living History playlist on YouTube.

Hakel has had an impressive I-O career: teaching at highly regarded universities, consulting on important projects, and serving in SIOP governance in several capacities. His I-O family tree is a veritable who’s who of the field, including many who have gone on to hold the SIOP presidency themselves. For a complete overview, read his presidential biography. All of this knowledge and experience makes his session an important piece of SIOP history and interesting and enlightening for viewers.

Launched in 2013, the Living History interview series was the brainchild of Paul Levy and David B. Baker, and was conducted every year at the SIOP Annual Conference, except for 2020 and 2022. Overseen by the History Committee, these sessions comprise an interview with a prominent I-O psychologist, followed by a question-and-answer segment. Recordings of these interviews are kept as artifacts of the living history of I-O psychology, expanding SIOP’s institutional knowledge.
