2023 SIOP Annual Conference Is a Wrap

SIOP hosted the 38th Annual Conference last month, offering both an online and in-person event. More than 5,000 registrants explored professional development and networking opportunities, educational presentations and posters, and the exhibit hall during the conference. More than 4,500 registrants attended in person.

“The conference had so much energy this year,” said SIOP Conferences and Programs Officer Emily Solberg. “It was truly wonderful to see so many attendees passionate about I-O psychology coming together to network and learn from each other.”

This year’s conference featured many of the offerings attendees are accustomed to, including four consortia for students and early career I-Os, Preconference Workshops, Friday Seminars, and the Frank Landy 5K Fun Run. It was the second year the Opening Plenary has been held on Wednesday night, leading into the Welcome Reception.

New this year were midday breaks on Thursday and Friday, added to give attendees the opportunity to recharge physically and mentally, explore the exhibit hall, or catch up with colleagues. In addition, the Conference Career Center was included in conference registration for job seekers. More than 450 registrants took advantage of this offering.

“Watching the SIOP Annual Conference unfold after a year of planning was amazing,” said SIOP Conference Chair Winny Shen. “It was inspiring to watch our community come together to share their individual and collective learnings, develop and deepen relationships, warmly welcome newcomers, and generate new ideas to be pursued in research and practice.” 

Both online and in-person registrants had access to select recordings and materials on Whova in the week following the event. This gave participants additional time to engage with sessions they might have missed, or that they wanted to rewatch, on their own schedule.

“The SIOP Annual Conference in Boston was a great success,” said SIOP Program Chair Enrica Ruggs. “We had so many innovative and exciting robust educational sessions offered in a variety of formats. It’s nice to see the continual growth and development of knowledge and practice across the field.”

SIOP thanks the 45 partners who supported this year’s conference.

Planning for the 2024 SIOP Annual Conference, which will be held in Chicago, is already underway, and the Conference Committee will hold its summer meeting in July. More details about the look ahead to 2024 will be shared this fall.
