This program matches practitioners earlier in their careers with more experienced practitioners with the goal of accelerating career growth and development of those being mentored. “The SIOP mentor program was an incredible opportunity to network and grow,” said protégé Jessie McClure following the 2022 program. “I met with my mentor about 1–2 times per month, and it was wonderful to have someone with whom I could share successes and challenges from my work life and my personal life. My conversations with my mentor helped me grow in my role and clarify my professional goals. Further, my network has grown due to my mentor proactively connecting me with others in her network. I am so grateful for the work we have accomplished together!” The program is open to all SIOP practitioner members. If you would like to serve as a mentor or work with a mentor, consider applying on the SIOP website. Applications are due Friday, January 27, 2023. “Participating as a mentor in the SIOP Practitioner Mentoring Program has been a very rewarding experience,” said Jodi Himelright, 2022 mentor. “I've really enjoyed meeting with and getting to know my protege. As much as I've shared my experience with her, she's taught me a few things along the way! It's fulfilling to support the next generation of I-O practitioners.” Some key points about the program: The mentoring program is pair based, with one mentor working with one protégé. The program is 10 months in duration, kicking off in March and concluding in December. Participants should plan on meeting (virtually) for about 2 hours per month. Prospective protégés need to be employed in the field of I-O psychology and preferably in their current role for at least 6 months. Prospective mentors should have at least 5 years of professional experience in the field. Participants will be matched based on the protégé’s stated goals for mentoring and the mentor’s strengths. They are also matched based on career track.
