Member Spotlight: Ali O'Malley, PhD

Position/Employer
I recently transitioned into self-employment by starting a coaching practice: Reflexion Group.

How long have you been a SIOP member?
Since the early 2000s!

What roles have you had within SIOP?
I’ve had leadership roles on the Education & Training committee and the Work Smart team, and was a reviewer for various scholarships.

Interest Area(s)
Coaching, leadership development, and feedback.

What sparked your interest in I-O psychology?
I've been preoccupied with work since childhood when I balanced my parents' checkbook and noticed how their workdays shaped their evening moods.

What role do you see I-O psychology playing in the future of work?
I hope I-O psychology IS the future of work!

Which of the Top 10 Work Trends for 2022 do you most strongly relate to and how can I-O psychology practitioners, educators, and students impact this trend?
Ooo, that's a tough one: Ensuring inclusive environments and cultures. Shout out to Ludmila Praslova for being an incredible champion for this "trend." I'm particularly passionate about supporting leaders in their inclusive leadership journeys.

What advice would you give to students or those early in their careers?
There is a squiggly line to "success."

What is one of your favorite SIOP Annual Conference memories/highlights?
Any experiences with my dear ones from Akron—we "grew up" together, and I savor every moment that we're reunited.

Please share one non-I-O-related bit of information about yourself.
I am a huge bird nerd.

Is there anything you would like to add?
I'd love to extend gratitude to the SIOP staff ... Thanks very much for all you do!
