What sparked your interest in I-O psychology?
Growing up with a father who owned a business and my interest in psychology

Guiding employees to make work an engaging, healthy, and sustainable environment that benefits all: employer, employee, and customer

What advice would you give to students or those early in their careers?
Try to get a lot of different experiences to figure out what you like to do. Breadth of experience when early career is far more important than depth of experience.

What is one of your favorite SIOP Annual Conference memories/highlights?
I explained to a fiancé of a young SIOP attendee my definition of the meaning of life. I said, “your goal in life is to have purpose” and a conversation ensued. Three years later that same attendee asked me what I said to her fiancé. I explained “having purpose.” She said it changed his life. After that, they made a wedding date, got married, and he started to excel at work. She said he finally had purpose and he was much happier for doing so, and it was that conversation that caused that change.

Please share one non-I-O-related bit of information about yourself
I am a single father of a 14-year-old. I restore cars, houses, and now a plane. Also, I am an avid runner, cyclist, and triathlete, and I play ice hockey regularly.

Is there anything you would like to add?
In 2013, my research was instrumental in helping to create Section 503 regulation to the Americans with Disabilities Act. I was recently promoted to partner and am now the Behavioral Health Practice Leader at Mercer. Earlier this year, I received a “Stevie” award from the American Business Awards for advancements in Diversity Equity and Inclusion for a survey I co-developed called Amplify with Global Disability Inclusion that measures the experience of people with disabilities in the workplace.
