May Conversation Series: Enrica Ruggs

Save the date for the third Conversation Series event of 2022, featuring Dr. Enrica Ruggs, who will talk about inequality in the workplace by discussing forms of discrimination and mistreatment, and ways organizations can combat these to create a more inclusive work environment.

Ensuring Inclusive Environments and Cultures was the #2 Top 10 Work Trend of 2022. This trend stresses the importance of organizations understanding viewpoints from all employees, not just those who are in the majority. DEI can no longer be a taskforce or team that rolls out training and events. DEI needs to be incorporated into the overall business strategy.

How can employers ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments and cultures? Does it require an explicit and delineated approach or do implicit and wide approaches lead to better outcomes? I-O psychologists equip organizations to understand the importance of and to monitor the inclusivity of their environment and culture. They also help them in finding the right balance in making environmental characteristics and cultures explicit yet leaving room for individuals’ own free interpretation of diversity.

Dr. Ruggs has studied the individual, organizational, and societal factors that influence inequity in the workplace. Join our conversation from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. EDT May 26 where she will share information and updates live from all of these channels:

Organized by the SIOP Electronic Communication Committee, the SIOP Conversation Series features thought leaders in academia and industry in an “Ask Me Anything” style conversation about their work and I-O-related topics. Listeners will have the opportunity to ask real-time questions and interact with the speaker.
