Amber Stark / Tuesday, January 11, 2022 / Categories: Member News, Items of Interest, SIOP Source Applications for the SIOP Practitioner Mentoring Program Are Due January 28 Submitted by the SIOP Career and Professional Development for Practitioners Committee The SIOP Career and Professional Development for Practitioners Committee is proud to launch the second year of the SIOP Practitioner Mentoring Program. This mentoring program matches practitioners earlier in their careers with more experienced practitioners with the goal of accelerating career growth and development of those being mentored. Protégé Ola Sampogna provided this feedback following the 2021 program, “Working with a SIOP mentor helped me understand and reframe my career goals in a realistic way and set an appropriate timeline. My mentor taught me to view different and challenging work situations as relevant learning opportunities for my long-term goals.” The program is open to all SIOP practitioner members. If you would like to serve as a mentor or work with a mentor, consider applying on the SIOP website. Applications are due Friday, January 28, 2022. “Being a mentor caused me to pause and look at the ways I had been approaching my work through a different lens. It has reenergized my passion for I-O psychology as a practitioner,” reported 2021 mentor Denise Beideck. Some key points about the program: The mentoring program is pair based, with one mentor working with one protégé (different than the Speed Mentoring that the committee also offers in April). The program is 10 months in duration, kicking off in March and concluding in December. Participants should plan on meeting (virtually) for about 2 hours per month. Prospective protégés need to be employed in the field of I-O psychology and preferably in their current role for at least 6 months. Prospective mentors should have at least 5 years of professional experience in the field. Participants will be matched together by our steering committee based on their applications.
