Registration is Now Open for the 2021 APA Virtual Convention

The 2021 APA Virtual convention is right around the corner and will feature a wide range of programming (invited addresses, informal Q&A sessions, symposiums, etc.) offered by researchers and practitioners from around the world. Speakers have been announced and include several SIOP members. Additional information will be shared later this month.

Highlights include:

  • The Division 14 Presidential Address by Steven Rogelberg. In his talk, “How Meetings Can Drive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Progress: Leveraging the Surprising Science of Meetings,” Dr. Rogelberg will share an evidence-based path for organizations, teams, committees, and leaders to realize the true potential of meetings to build genuine inclusion and assure ROI on what is a massive investment of time.

To fully gain the tremendous benefits of diversity, it must be partnered with genuine inclusion. Meetings are a key mechanism to bring inclusion to life. There are 55 million meetings a day in the U.S. alone, thus 55 million opportunities for inclusion. Meetings done right allows unique perspectives. Backgrounds, and viewpoints to be leveraged in ways that promote innovation, engagement, and excellent decision making. Meetings done wrong derails inclusion and ultimately the potential of diversity goes unrealized. You will learn what we know about meetings from an evidence-based perspective and gain knowledge and resources on how to effectively lead meetings to promote inclusion and effectiveness as well as how organizations can create an engaging culture around meetings so that the incredible power of diversity can be unleashed.

  • The keynote session, a Fireside Chat with Adam Grant. In this informal Q&A session, Division 14 APA Program Chair Malissa Clark sits down with Dr. Adam Grant to ask him a variety of questions submitted by Division 14 members. Questions cover a wide range of topics ranging from addressing systemic racism, how organizations can move forward and build resiliency coming out of the pandemic, how to maintain high productivity while still having a life outside of work, advice on choosing research topics and collaborators, tips for young scholars and PhD students, and much more.

In addition to these two featured sessions, several SIOP members are serving as keynote speakers and there will also be a poster session and Division 14 symposia, covering a wide range of Industrial-Organizational Psychology content areas:

  • Positive Psychology Perspectives on Work: The Good, The Challenges, and The Future
This session will highlight the benefits, challenges, and innovative applications of positive psychology for individuals and organizations as they navigate the post-COVID workplace. Topics include strengths, resilience, engagement, and well-being.
