Virtual SIOP Program at APA 2020

Registration is now open for APA 2020, which will include presentations from several SIOPers. Virtual sessions will be available on demand beginning August 6, 2020 and will be accessible through August 1, 2021.

The Division 14 Program features many timely and relevant sessions, including a summary of this year’s Presidential Programming sessions theme: Learn…Lead…Change: Preparing Psychology and Psychologists for the Future. Several Division 14 members will present on the future of work, artificial intelligence, the future of leading, and much more during the Presidential Programming. There will also be more than 50 poster presentations.

Specific sessions include an invited address by Richard Landers: “How Can Artificial Intelligence Be Used to Better Ask and Answer Research Questions?” In his presentation, Dr. Landers will provide an introduction to artificial intelligence and discuss the potential of AI for I-O psychology research.

The Featured Symposium is “Are Generational Categories Meaningful Distinctions for Workforce Management?” In this session, Drs. Nancy Tippins and Julie Schuck will present preliminary results from a year-long investigation of an ad hoc committee formed by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines to study generational issues in workforce management and employee practices.

In the session on teaching I-O in an undergraduate-only symposium, Careers in Undergraduate I-O Psychology, scholars will discuss what it is like to have a career as an I-O psychologist working in an undergraduate-only I-O program.

A unique advantage of this new format is that with registration, attendees will have access to many more sessions than they otherwise might have been able to attend in person. Sometimes choosing between two great sessions offered at the same time is painful – but in the new virtual format attendees will have access to all sessions from all divisions, as well as poster sessions.

“Although it is disappointing to not be able to see these presentations in person, I am grateful for the flexibility and willingness of the presenters to transition from the in-person convention to a virtual format,” said Malissa Clark, Division 14 APA Program Chair. “We have such a terrific lineup of sessions that address important, timely, and relevant issues to today’s workers, and the benefit of this virtual format is that all content will be available on-demand for one year.
