The new issue of Consulting Psychology Journal is a Special Issue on The Strategic Design and Management of Psychologically Based Consulting Firms. Guest-edited by Marc B. Sokol and Larry Norton, the articles offer an inside look at a variety of models for initiating, growing, divesting and closing a consulting business in consulting psychology (See bottom for links to the articles). The issue kicks off with a wonderful introduction to this special issue by Marc and Larry providing a focus for the five individual consulting company and practitioner based practice model authors to share their wisdom, experiences and recommendations for starting and growing a successful business in consulting psychology. Then in separate articles, five authors each describe perspectives of consulting psychology business models including: Meghan Morris and Bonnie O’Toole share insights about career paths beyond academia targeted for psychological scientists; Marc Sokol providing a perspective from the sole-practitioner consultancy role; Sandra Davis providing insight about the evolution of a business owner; Robert Hogan sharing insights and recommendations based on the growth of his company, Hogan Assessment Systems; and finally Alison Eyring who provides a global perspective of starting and growing an international consulting psychology business. Finally, Larry Norton synthesizes these articles in a very comprehensive article focusing on the business of consulting psychology and key lessons learned that we can all apply.
