SIOP Consortia for Faculty, Students, and Alumni

Planning your #SIOP20 experience? Consider a consortium! The four SIOP Consortia are full day events held on the Wednesday prior to the start of the annual SIOP conference and include lunch and receptions. The consortia are only open to SIOP registrants. Please share this information with your students and alumni via your program’s newsletters or listservs.

Master’s Consortium:

Today Master’s Student, Tomorrow I-O Practitioner

As your students are beginning to plan for the 2020 conference, they should consider joining us for the Master’s Consortium (MC), a developmental program specifically designed for second year master’s students! The program will include an impressive lineup of speakers, offering their unique perspectives on the opportunities and challenges faced by I-O practitioners today. They will also focus on the key developmental experiences that can lay the groundwork for a successful career in industrial and organizational psychology. Although second year master’s students who will be on the job hunt soon will likely benefit the most from the MC, all master’s students are welcome.

Each program can nominate two student representatives. Space is limited, so interested students should be sure to let your program chair know!

Doctoral Consortium:

Calling All Doctoral Students! Attend the Lee Hakel Doctoral Consortium!

The Doctoral Consortium is a development and networking event that includes a diverse set of I-O professionals who offer unique perspectives on the opportunities and challenges faced by both I-O practitioners and academics today. The Doctoral Consortium offers separate program tracks for applied and academic focus. Topics include surviving the dissertation, navigating the job process, and learning from successful early career academics and practitioners.

Each program can nominate two student representatives. Students must have passed comprehensive exams to be eligible to attend. Space is limited, and interested students should be sure to let your program chair know!

Early Career Practitioner Consortium (ECPC)

Early career practitioners often find themselves navigating challenging realities of the working world not covered in their graduate program. Whether seeking guidance from accomplished I-O practitioners; insights for identifying and leveraging their strengths or areas of development; or learning about the various possible career trajectories, it’s common for early career practitioners to be uncertain about navigating their careers. Please share this powerful opportunity with your alumni to help set their careers up for success! 

SIOP’s Early Career Practitioner Consortium is for individuals within 5 years of receiving their PhD or terminal MA. Attendees will receive guidance on common challenges experienced early in one’s career, develop a career plan, network with peers, get mentoring from seasoned I-O professionals, take the Hogan Personality Inventory, and receive follow up coaching. Interested individuals should submit their application today!

Junior Faculty Consortium

The Junior Faculty Consortium invites current and future junior faculty in departments of psychology and management to participate in a full day of career-focused activities and sessions. Sessions led by senior faculty will cover topics such as navigating the promotion/tenure process and establishing and maintaining your research agenda to name a few. Testimonials from previous years reveal that the Consortium has created a bridge for junior faculty to form lasting professional relationships with junior peers across programs and universities!

Additionally, many attendees choose to attend the consortium multiple times to capitalize on new programming and information presented in subsequent years. Anyone who has proposed their dissertation, is seeking an academic position for the Fall 2020 term, or who has recently obtained an academic position is eligible to participate.
