For the third week of the 2019 celebration, SIOP members share information and insights on agility and agile organizations, the gig economy and contract work, and sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement. The subjects were all on the 2019 Top 10 Workplace Trends List, and this week’s features are a mix of blog posts, interviews, and 5-minute videos recorded at the 2019 SIOP Annual Conference Ben Baran is an assistant professor of management at Cleveland State University, a cofounder and principal of the consulting firm Indigo Anchor LLC, and a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He contributes an examination of agile/agility that includes some recommended actions for both executives and researchers. Wayne Robinson, a consultant with Deloitte, adds to the discussion in his Top 10 IGNITE video. Agility is #9 on the 2019 Top 10 Trends and this is the topic’s second appearance on the list after being absent for a couple years. It made its first appearance at #7 in 2016. Emily Campion, assistant professor of Human Resources in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University, covers Trend #4 in her discussion of what’s new and what hasn’t changed in relation to gig work. Two members contribute perspectives on Trend #5. Carra Sims, a senior behavioral and social scientist at Rand Corporation, and Jennifer Weiss, Partner and Executive Consultant at HR Alignment, Ltd., discuss sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement. Tilman Sheets, a professor at Louisiana Tech, is coordinating this year’s Smarter Workplace Awareness Celebration. Find all the 2019 resources gathered here.
