APA Council Election Results

Gavan O’Shea Elected as APA Representative

Results of the American Psychological Association (APA) Council of Representatives election have been received from the APA office.

SIOP is pleased to announce that Gavan O’Shea, manager of the Creative Services Group at HumRRO, has been elected to serve as an APA Council Representative for Division 14. O’Shea will join the SIOP Executive Board effective January 1, 2020 and will serve a 3-year term.

O’Shea will replace Stephen Stark, whose term will expire at the end of December.

The Council of Representatives is the legislative body of APA and has full power and authority over the affairs and funds of the association within the limitations set by the certificate of incorporation and the bylaws, including the power to review, upon its own initiative, the actions of any board, committee, division, or affiliated organization. Council is composed of representatives of divisions; representatives of state, provincial, and territorial psychological associations (SPTAs); and the members of the Board of Directors.

Gavan has been with HumRRO (an independent consulting firm specializing in talent management and analytics, assessment development, and applied research and evaluation in the human capital and education arenas) since 2006. Before joining HumRRO, he was a research scientist at the American Institutes for Research. His recent work has involved conducting a practice analysis of the coaching profession for the International Coach Federation (ICF), helping create a leadership development framework for the U.S. Secret Service, and developing rich media simulations for both public and private-sector clients. He earned his PhD in I-O psychology from Virginia Tech, his master’s degree in general-experimental psychology from Villanova, and his undergraduate degree from St. Michael’s College. A SIOP member since 2001, Gavan recently completed a 2-year term as chair of the Workshop Committee.
