Call For Symposium on Workplace Mistreatment from a Cultural Perspective

Dear SIOP Colleagues,

We are seeking your interest in taking part in a symposium we would like to organize at the next SIOP conference in Seattle, WA (April 28-30, 2022) on the topic of workplace mistreatment from a cultural perspective.

Each presentation would focus on one or more forms of workplace mistreatment (e.g., incivility, sexual harassment, mobbing, abusive supervision, etc.).  We encourage studies that encompass diverse work/cultural contexts including less researched contexts.  Included papers are expected to present at least one of the following:

  •   How the examined form/s of workplace mistreatment is/are defined and manifest themselves in a specific cultural context

  •   Discuss the antecedents and consequences of workplace mistreatment in different work context

  •   Propose culture-sensitive intervention strategies to deal with different forms of workplace mistreatment.

If you are interested in joining us in such a symposium, please send a 1000-word abstract of your study to Dr. H. Canan Sümer  (canan.sumer@ozyegin.edu.tr) by September 19, 2021.  Decision to include the submitted paper in the symposium will be announced on October 1, 2021.

Our role in this process will include one presentation on different forms of workplace mistreatment in Turkish culture, management of the symposium submission process, and informing the contributors about the final decision in a timely fashion.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.   Should you have any questions, ideas or suggestions do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Dr. H. Canan Sümer (Ozyegin University) canan.sumer@ozyegin.edu.tr
