The SIOP Foundation: A Year in Review

Greetings from the SIOP Foundation’s Board of Trustees! 2024 has been a very busy year for the SIOP Foundation. We are now managing over $7 million dollars of your donations. At the 2024 SIOP Annual Conference, 56 people received an award, scholarship, or grant, and a total of $157,000 was distributed. Now, as the year closes, we want to take a moment to not only thank you for your support of the Foundation but also fill you in on a couple of important initiatives we have embarked upon.

The Foundation Trustees were able to meet in September for a strategic planning session in partnership with the SIOP Executive Board’s Fall Meeting. As one key result, we modified our mission statement to emphasize the Foundation’s potential role beyond managing a successful and impactful program of recognition awards, scholarships, and research grants. Significantly, we now seek to also create opportunities for I-O psychologists to share their research findings with leaders of organizations and see it applied in the workplace. Accordingly, here’s the new mission of the SIOP Foundation:

The SIOP Foundation leverages philanthropy and partnerships to create opportunities that empower I-O psychologists to promote the development and application of science in the workplace.

There are many ways to achieve this mission. For example, the Foundation has established a very successful partnership with the Human Resources Planning Association (HRPA) to get I-O science and best practices in the hands of senior HR leaders. However, as we begin to set our goals for 2025, we welcome your input on how we might otherwise go about increasing the visibility of the skills and research findings of I-O psychologists. Please feel free to share your ideas with the Foundation Trustees by sending an email to the SIOP Foundation at SIOPFoundation@siop.org.

Of course, it takes money to fund the various initiatives the SIOP Foundation undertakes. As you plan your year-end giving, please consider making a charitable gift to the SIOP Foundation before the end of the year. You can download a donation form and mail a check to the SIOP Foundation (P.O. Box 1223, Drayton, SC 29333) or you can donate through the SIOP Foundation webpage. Please note, donations through the website will not be possible January 1, 2025, through mid-January due to SIOP's technology upgrade.

Finally, on behalf of all the Trustees, I wish you and your family a happy holiday season.

Sincerely,
Nancy Tippins
President, SIOP Foundation
