Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) to Educational Institutions

On February 14, 2025, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) published a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) to educational institutions that receive federal funds notifying them “that they must cease using race preferences and stereotypes as a factor in their admissions, hiring, promotion, compensation, scholarships, prizes, administrative support, sanctions, discipline, and beyond.” ED will begin assessing compliance 14 days from the issuance of this DCL. Any institutions found to be in noncompliance would be subject to investigation and potential loss of federal funding.
