SIOP Military and Veterans Initiative Overview

The Military and Veterans Initiative (MVI) builds and enacts collaborative partnerships to support the military community that is employed in civilian settings and their employers. The military community includes veterans, guard and reservists, military spouses, and family members. These partnerships helps ensure employers hire from this worthy community and that transitioning service members are equipped to join the field of I-O psychology.

SIOP Military and Veterans Inclusion Committee

The SIOP Military and Veterans Committee was established in November 2018 as an expansion of the initial SIOP Veterans Initiative that began in 2011. The committee aims to carry out the goals of the MVI by assisting the military community with career development, certification, and leadership development opportunities.

Committee members draw upon psychological science to improve professional opportunities for the military community. For example, they provide research, expert consultation, and disseminate best practices and workplace resources. Members use their skills to share why employers can benefit from hiring military and veterans. In turn, this advocacy can diversify workplaces and increase employment opportunities in the military community.
