Walmart and Wendy’s Named 2019-2020 HRM Impact Award Winners

SHRM, SIOP, and their foundations to award organizations that are improving human resource management practices.

The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management), along with their foundations, announced Walmart and Wendy’s as the winners of the 2019-2020 Human Resource Management (HRM) Impact Award.

The HRM Impact Award is an honor given by SIOP, SHRM, the SHRM Foundation, and the SIOP Foundation that recognizes organizations with outstanding evidence-based HR management practices. The award promotes HR practices and initiatives that have been measured and determined successful through evidence-based, data-driven analyses.

Walmart is being awarded a 2019-2020 HRM Impact Award for its project, “Retail Associate Assessment (RAA).” The program was developed to be used as a selection tool to support the hiring process at each of the 4,700+ Walmart stores. With more than 3,000,000 applicants each year, the program helped predict both performance and turnover while meeting many competing demands.

Wendy’s winning project, “Voice of Wendy’s (VOW)” was designed to measure multiple areas of employee engagement with both restaurant employees and employees who work in roles supporting the restaurants. The program helped the company better support their 6,700+ restaurants by providing a variety of resources for managers to utilize on how to interpret and take action on VOW results.

Goldman Sachs was awarded the 2019-2020 HRM Impact Award Honorable Mention for their project, “Goldman Sachs’ Graduate Recruitment Pre-Hire Assessment Strategy.” The program focused on the reform of their graduate recruitment pre-hire assessment strategy. This strategy has allowed Goldman Sachs to widen their search pool, identify poor interviewers and good interviewers, and improve their ability to make fair, and reliable hiring decisions.

Walmart and Wendy’s will be recognized with plaques at the SIOP Annual Conference at the JW Marriott in Austin, Texas in April 2020.
